The Impact of 2018

My word for the year of 2018 was Impact. Looking back on 2018 here is a snapshot of the Impact of 2018 for Skutt Catholic.

January

SOAR center classroom completed, funded by the president wishlist from Angel Flight
School enters a planning study with the Steier group for a possible Capital Campaign
March for Life Trip – Skutt Catholic filled two busses full of kids and chaperones and sent 87 students to participate in the 45th annual March for Life. Believed to be a record for any school from the Archdiocese

February

School Board approves to move forward with a $6 million capital campaign to SOAR
Wrestling wins a state record 20th state wrestling Championship and a state dual Championship as well
Signed an agreement to move to an online bookstore for all student textbooks with “MBS”

March

Boys basketball finished as State Runner-up
Academic decathlon finished first in the state in their division
Vivace advanced to the overall evening finals at each of their 6 competitions, earning Grand Champion honors at West Liberty, Iowa.
Cheer and Dance both win State Championships
On March 24, Skutt Catholic inducts first members of the Skutt Catholic Hall of fame: Msgr. James Gilg, Mike McMahon, Brad Hildebrandt, 1998 wrestling team

April

Campaign kicked off publicly on April 29 with $1.9 million in pledges for the silent phase
Dawn Fuelberth named 2018 Nebraska State Biology Teacher of the Year
Hope Stratman finishes National Runner-up for Poetry Out Loud
HawkWalk raises over $32,000 for tuition assistance

May

Girls soccer finishes as the State Runner-up
Boys Golf finishes as the State Runner-up
Graduated 202 students receiving $19.4 million of college scholarships
Finished the year with the largest group of students ever in our school 767
Demolition of the front entrance began
Demolition of gym bleachers
Water from the demolition makes the gym floor unplayable for competitions
SkyHawk to be Senior receives a perfect SAT score, the first in school history

June

Winner of the NSAA cellular cup for boys activities and OWH all sport award for boys sports
HOPE NE (Winnebago Service Trip)
Building permit issued June 27th and formal construction begins on the new Entrance
On June 27 demolition on the gym floor begins

July

SkyHawk Appeal wraps up with $270,000 raised
Another SkyHawk to be senior receives a perfect ACT score, two perfect scores in the class
Online Purchase Order system rolled out that will increase efficiencies throughout the building
Skutt Catholic receives its first $1 million gift since the school opened
Casting Nets Evangelization Training Program attended by students
Rosebud Service Trip
Increased the 401k match for staff from 50% of the first 4% to 50% of the first 6%

August

Skutt Catholic welcomes 740 students in our doors for our 26th year in the Omaha community
Skutt Catholic with help from a grant from the Archdiocese begins a formal “Discipleship” program with our student, the first of its kind in the state
New 401k provider for all staff – Silverstone Group & Principal Funds
New bleachers were installed in both gyms
A new gym floor was installed in the main gym
Rolled out “Google Classroom” used by all students and staff for classroom workflow

September

Five students were named National Merit Semifinalists
Over 45 students were mandated to become an EMHC or readers at mass
A third SkyHawk Senior receives a perfect ACT score, bringing the total to three perfect scores in the class.

Hawktober

SkyHawk Boys Cross Country finishes as State Champions for the second year in a row
Sophomore Drug and Alcohol Prevention Presentation with Keith Bell
10 students participated in All State Music
Angel Flight Masquerade gala has over 730 guests
The campaign to SOAR wraps up the formal campaign raising over $5 million
Dr. Mark Adler presentation on Reid’s story, message of #BeKind

November

SkyHawk Volleyball wins their fourth consecutive State Championship, a class B record
SkyHawk Football wins the State Championship and played in the championship game five of the past six years
Kim Foundation presentation for all grades, on mental illness and suicide prevention
November 14th certificate of occupancy received for new main entrance
Math day teams winning both the probe and quiz bowl competition
Jason Evert school assembly on Chastity

December

First Annual St. Nicholas event held at Skutt Catholic with over 250 guests
New Director of Alumni Relations position created and hired
Board approves new tuition discounts available to full time sponsors and assistant coaches and to teachers and administrators who teach in Catholic grade schools, the Catholic schools office, or Chancery in a full time role
